React Advanced 2023 Attendee Welcome Guide

Welcome to React Advanced London 2023! We are so excited to have you with us again!

Get ready to meet a lot of like-minded people, to learn, connect, and have some real fun in London. Let’s create an unforgettable experience that will stay with you for years. To make this possible, please use this guide, so you know all important info & policies that will ensure you have a safe and productive conference!

We are running a hybrid conference, so most of the materials we write here will be relevant for both IN-PERSON and REMOTE participation. But we’d recommend our REMOTE audience to take a look at our Remote Welcome Guide.

Interaction via Conference Discord Channels

All the main communication will be in discord. Click here to join the Discord channels.

How to connect to discord:

  1. Join Discord server via the link
  2. After joining the server you’ll get a welcome message

Workshops (registration details included)

There are two types of workshops: FREE & PRO.

Workshops will be run remotely via Zoom. The recordings of most workshops will be shared with full ticket holders after the conference. How to register:

The workshops take place in-person, you can find out more about the workshops here. They are not included in the main ticket, you can buy tickets for them separately via the link.

Certificates

After the second day of the conference, each participant will receive a certificate which will appear in participant’s GitNation portal account. You will get the notification in your email address.

Note, to receive a certificate you need to have an account in the GitNation portal.

Talk recording after the conference

All recordings will be placed at the GitNation portal.

Recordings from remote days will be placed right after the conference, in-person recordings - within 1-2 weeks after the conference.

Attendees with Free Tickets will be able to get recordings in a month after the conference.

Code of Conduct

We encourage you to read the full code of conduct, but the main thing is here:

Our conference is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any conference venue, including talks, workshops, parties, X (Twitter) and other online media. Conference participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference without a refund at the discretion of the conference organizers.

Day 1, October 20 (In-person + Remote)

Registration & Schedule Overview

📌  Conference Announcements

We will make various announcements via the #📢radv-announcements channel on Discord GitNation Tech Communities server. Make sure you’ve joined Discord server!

📌  Schedule

We will have 2 tracks: Piccard & Van Dover (because we will be diving deep 😉). Each track will have a different speaker in parallel. The schedule can be found on the website. The time there is in BST.

📌  Speaker Q&A rooms

After each talk, you will be able to ask questions to the speakers in-person. We’ll have a dedicated Speaker Q&A spot for most of the speakers. Head there after talk and onstage QnA to ask your questions to speaker personally.

Location: a smaller catering room – look for a Speaker Q&A banner.

Note, the speaker Q&A room will be hybrid, meaning that remote attendees will also be able to join via Spatial.chat (link to Spatial.chat can be found on the watch page).

📌  Discussion Rooms

On October 20 we’ll have 2 discussion rooms:

  • 14:15-15:00 BST React Server Components
  • 16:00-16:45 BST Engineering Leadership

Location: Ground floor, room on the left to the reception – look for Discussion room signs.

Note, the discussion rooms will be hybrid as well, meaning that remote attendees will also be able to join via ZOOM (link to ZOOM can be found on the watch page).

Treasure Hunt – gather coins and get the prize 🏆

We’ll have a game within a day – Treasure Hunt 🪙

Collect as many coins as you can and come to the Treasure Hunt spot (registration area) to count your treasures before 15:30.

The 3 winners with the most coins will be announced before the last talk in Piccard Track and will get the prizes!

Prizes: t-shirts, mugs, and many more!

How to get coins:

  • find them around the venue
  • join speakers' QnA rooms and get a coin from our volunteer
  • join discussion rooms and get a coin from our volunteer
  • publish a post on your socials with the hashtag #ReactAdvanced and show it to our volunteers in orange t-shirts

You will receive an email with the link and instructions on the day of the event. Do not forget to check your spam folder :)

Break before the party (17:00-19:00 BST approx)

Use the time before the party wisely – take some rest, have a nice dinner with new and old friends, recharge before the party begins!

You can use our custom city map to find enjoyable places to taste/visit!

After Party (19:00-22:00 BST)

Join us at the venue (same as conference) from 19:00!

What will happen at the party:

Room 1 (where Van Dover Track will be during the day):

  • 💫 At 19:30 BST Futuristic Livecoding Performance from Sam Aaron. Sam codes with Sonic Pi - free software he created used throughout the world to teach coding in schools making live coding music accessible to everyone.
  • 🎤 Karaoke

Room 2 (where Catering & Sponsors booths will be during the day):

  • 🎧 Silent disco
  • 🗯 Networking
  • 🎲 Board games

Nibbles & drinks are included!

Food & Beverage On Site

In the morning you will find welcome coffee in the catering area.

During the coffee breaks, you can enjoy freshly brewed coffee and tea along with light refreshments. Regular lunch will be provided to all attendees.

There will be vegan & gluten free options available, make sure you ask for them from the staff if you don’t see them right away.

Travelling to the Brewery by public transport is quick and easy; situated in the heart of the

City within walking distance of several Underground and Mainline train stations.

📌 Bicycle

Bicycle parking is available at the Brewery. Bicycle helmets can be left at our cloakroom.

📌 Uber (Taxi)

Uber works perfectly in London. You can download the app via App Store or Google Play.

Parking at the Venue

There are no car parking facilities on site at The Brewery. The nearest public NCP car park can be found at The Barbican. There is also limited pay and display street parking available.

Wheelchair access

The venue is equipped for the mobility of people with disabilities. There are wheelchair-accessible seats in the hall.

Wi-fi

Yes, there will be public wi-fi at the venue. Please refrain from doing any high-bandwidth activities such as watching videos or livestreaming,.

We also do not guarantee the high speed of Wi-Fi, as well as the safety of your personal data when using the public Internet.

Filming & Photography

A professional crew will be taking photos and videos at the event for future promotion of the event. If you’d like to opt out of being photographed and recorded, you can ask for a black conference lanyard at the registration that signals to the crew to not take pictures. You might still be captured accidentally in audience photos where the lanyard is not visible – please get in touch with our support for deletion requests.

Lost & Found

If you find an item that is on its own (bag, laptop, phone, etc), please do the right thing and bring it to the registration area, we will find the owner of the item.

Meeting & Connecting with Others

Non-exclusionary conversations

Most of our attendees work as mid-level or senior software developers. However, juniors and students will also be present at the event. Please remember that you were once one of them, and treat them with respect regardless of experience.

Travel to the United Kingdom

Please consult the up-to-date travel rules for All countries or take a look directly at your country’s official Covid information website.

The UK government has removed remaining domestic restrictions in England. When you travel to England, you:

  • do not need to complete a United Kingdom passenger locator form before you travel
  • do not need to take any COVID-19 tests before you travel or after you arrive
  • do not need to quarantine when you arrive

But we still advise that you book refundable accommodation and travel.
